Prologue Complete!

Good Evening!

My apologies for not posting in quite a while - Just finished the first cut of the prologue. The issue that I am running into however is that it is rather length ~ 25,000 words. Most likely the other acts will be of similar bulk, though which means this is going into large scale VN territory rather than just an LN/ short KN.

I've been on vacation for a bit, so hopefully I can give you more updates to the Act 1 now that I'm in the middle of writing it. Should go faster as the prologue should just set the tone/ characters while Act 1 is the true meat and bones of the story. See you then!

Update

Good Evening!

Just a recap from the lemmasoft post - here's some of the progress that I'm at right now:

  • Prologue is a little bit over halfway, at it's completion it should be around 20,000 words. Lengthy I know, however necessary to set things up for the story.
  • There are four planned acts, each should be 20-30,000 words respectfully
  • In terms of the story, Acts I-III are pretty solid in terms of events, however the final act is still in flux.
For your enjoyment, here are some of the updated character bios of some the people you'll be interacting with.

MC - Obviously the main character. He’s a patriotic early twenties male. Believes his country is in the right for fighting for its survival, especially with growing up in a constant state of war. His weakness is his inaction when with other people, especially when war crimes are being committed. He is excited to go on an adventure that is war, however is extremely green and wet around the ears. He earned his rank through education, rather than experience. He’s a bit apathetic looking, however knows when to crack jokes. Did three years of college before being drafted, enjoys reading and sketching.

Mentor - As the name describes, one of the first people MC meets who he can look up. Remembers some of his advice as he goes through his hardships. Similar to a father figure to him, least during his time in conflict. He’s an older gentleman, veteran of the previous conflicts with a different country. Implants the first seeds of doubt in MC about the war, though initially MC brushes it off (Cherkov’s Rifle). Potentially meets MC at the penal battalion?

Good friend - He gets along well with MC, along with some other characters. Originally sympathizes with MC’s view of the war until MC starts questioning his own country’s loyalty. He is one of MC’s first really good friends and often spends time with MC during the down times. Although he’s the joker, he comes from a poor family. He’s extremely eager to participate in the war, and often is overzealous about facing the enemy, seeing as he does not want to return home.

First Conflict Family - Family that he steals from that he sees in person when on the run. Makes MC realize that he needs to be okay with his actions from now to continue living and that everything has an impact.

Deserter/Partner - MC’s foil from the other side. Someone fighting on the opposite side who runs away for a different reason. Cowardly character who potentially develops? Would also need to be a foil to MC, perhaps a disenchant anti-war personality.
